About Us
Assistive Technology Resource Centers of Hawaii (ATRC), is a statewide,
non-profit committed to ensuring access to assistive technology
(AT) for persons with disabilities. Formerly Hawaii Assistive Technology
Training & Services (HATTS), ATRC changed its name to better
reflect the growing importance of assistive
technology in our communities and to further emphasize our organization's
renewed commitment to providing resources for consumers and professionals
to succeed with assistive technology.
The name change brought with it a new logo, designed to emphasize
our agency's goal of affecting change through education, advocacy,
training, and systems
change. The "ripple" represents one of ATRC's core
values, that any effort to positively change attitudes, beliefs,
policies, or laws can have a tremendous impact on our entire community.
OUR MISSION
Linking individuals with technology so all people can participate
in every aspect of community life.
Empowering individuals to maintain dignity and control in their
lives by promoting technology through advocacy, training, information,
and education.
ATRC provides information and training
on devices, services, and funding resources.
Activities include partnerships with HCIL,
UCPA, WAW,
and a variety of groups including consumers, educators, employers,
state agencies, and private organizations.
ATRC also increases AT awareness and promotes advocacy
among persons with disabilities.
ATRC helps to bring about changes in practices, policies, and laws
to improve access to assistive technology devices and services.
ATRC is funded in part by a grant from the National Institute on
Disability and Rehabilitation Research, U.S. Department of Education,
Grant # H224A10023.
ATRC is also part of a unique collaboration called DiverseAbilities.
